TARLENA CAMPAIGN 2015

12 04 2015

On the 8th of April I went down to Arawa, though it was raining I want to check with the candidates how are they going with their campaign. I sent almost 50 texts or SMS to candidates if they have any campaign line up for Thursday, Friday onwards. Unfortunately 49 sms either went missing or they don’t want to reply or they are not ready. Only one reply who says he will start in Buin South Bougainville.

I tried the Northern Region, a contact I came to know late last year. I asked her if she is standing for the election and if so may I film one of her campaign? She reply and told me NO but she is assisting another woman who is contesting the North Bougainville women’s seat. After talking with the woman’s campaign manager she text me back and told me that am welcome.

It was late in the evening so I rang the person I know well if he will run Arawa Buka passenger trip on Thursday. He says yes so all set to go. Thursday arrived Kokopau but they change the timing to Friday, I have to come back to Arawa and returned back to Buka on Friday 9th of April.

On the afternoon of 9th at around 1pm Dr Naomi Tulaha and her party came to pick us up then we drove to Terlena. Some 100 plus women were having a workshop at the Chabai Rehabilitation centre so it was the good time for candidates in the Northern Region to speak to a crowd. The feeder road has some worst potholes, which the women who were on the truck complained that their elected leader in the current house haven’t done anything to fix the potholes.

Chabai Rehabilitation Centre is where the women seek refuge and get counselling when they have problems of all kinds in their lives.
The campaign started with the introduction from the chairlady, introducing the candidates.

There were 5 candidates with the current caretaker president Dr John Momis, who talked for almost one hour plus. The others were given only 3 minutes to speak. The rest of the candidates are in Dr John Momis New Bougainville Party. Only Dr Naomi Tulaha is running as an independent candidate.
