A Gender Violence workshop and training was held in Pakia Village Central Bougainville.Thirty five Participants from all over the Central Region attended the workshop and training. The participants told Mekamui News that they really learned a lot and will share the knowledge with their people in their respective villages they came from.
After the closing of the workshop when we are waiting for transport back to Arawa, Thomas Tamusio a Chief from the village was telling the participants that all the stones they were seeing at the village were not from there but was carried down the river by the big landside when they were digging the road up to Panguna which buried couple workmen and machineries.
After he finished his story I asked him if I could film him which he says ok and I did further asked him what his thoughts about reopening Panguna mine. He told me his answer is big NO, but he wants BCL to clean up the mess. The land is for gardening not mining he says, population is multiplying where will the children live and make garden up there as well as us if mining further destroys the land.
